Practical and clinical approaches using pacing to improve self-regulation in special populations such as children and people with mental health or learning disabilities

For special populations such as people with a mental health issue or learning disability, disconnect between the ability to accurately monitor and regulate exercise behaviour can lead reduced levels of physical activity, which, in turn, is associated additional problems. Activity pacing strategy used clinical settings address issues pain amelioration, while self-pacing research now well addressed sport science literature. It has been proposed recently that these overlapping areas investigation collectively support development self-regulatory, lifestyle skills across broad population groups. appears have substantial application numerous rehabilitation and, therefore, purpose this short communication articulate how an activity approach could be utilized among groups whom self-regulatory may require development. This paper provides specific examples practice 2 discrete populations: children, difficulties. In cases, homeostatic regulatory processes either altered, individual extrinsic appropriately self-regulate performance. A support-based environment programmatic (lifestyle) would beneficial facilitate supervised education-based self-regulation until time fully self-regulated feasible.
